Namma Yatri
Namma Yatri is an app that connects the auto Rickshaw drivers directly to the users, without the 3rd party like Uber, Ola, Lyft etc.
This app was created for the benefit of the drivers with the coordination of the auto-rickshaw association. So no commission is taken from the driver. The commission is usually huge, up to 30% - 40%.
“This project exclusively discusses the main features of the app and its purpose. I began working on this project independently in 2019. However, the app has since become successful, and I've collaborated with four product designers and wonderful illustrators.

The Challenge
In 2022, I took on an exciting project at Juspay: NammaYatri. Working closely with the CEO and project managers, my main focus was the customer-facing app. I collaborated with an other designer for the diver app, and together, we successfully launched the app in Bangalore by November 2022. The positive response led to a team expansion, and I now manage multiple features and the design system for NammaYatri.
My Role
We started solving for the major use-case first by looking at other players in the market and speaking to the driver association. We tried to lay down all the problems with the booking platforms like Ola, Uber and tried to solve them in this app. As cancellation was one of the major issues we tried to solve that and also focused on providing reasonable rates for our users.

Transparent rate cards to build trust
Trip fares are based on government-stipulated prices. However, drivers can add an amount within a specific range to account for high traffic or bad weather. This approach gives drivers more control and prevents them from operating at low prices or losing customers to surge pricing.
Displaying transparent rates prior to booking provides a straightforward understanding of the costs, fostering trust in the process.
Introduing Tipping Culture
Tipping isn't a common practice in India, but we wanted to introduce this feature in NammaYatri in a way that doesn't make the user feel like they’re paying extra. The idea is to offer a tip to expedite finding a ride, while also providing an incentive for drivers who may not be fully satisfied with the app’s fare. The goal was to minimize friction between drivers and customers, making the experience smoother and more rewarding for both parties.
Enhancing local language features
Overcoming language barriers, we've introduced a feature translating all messages to the driver's language, addressing communication challenges between Kannada-speaking drivers and users unfamiliar with the regional language. This enhancement ensures seamless communication for a smoother experience
We've incorporated learning features in the app, enabling users to grasp essential Kannada phrases through interactive flashcards
